A third option is of course that the pressure vessels have big holes in them that prevents TEPCO from properly filling them. That might be possible in reactor 2 and 3 where there is no real difference in pressure between the vessel and containment, but it can't be possible in number 1 where there is a big differential. One can't have big pressure difference with gaping holes.

I see it as two possibilities.

1. The level gauge is broken and the water level reading is nonsense(I find this most likely).

2. The pumps they are using are not powerful enough to create enough pressure to fill the cores completely.

I don't think it is number 2 because they report changes in flow rate and they indicate they can substantially increase the water flow into the cores when its needed(like when the number one heated up). So the level readings must be junk.

Hi! I think it seems a little strange that the rods are still above the water line. What does this mean and why is this? When the they are using the fireline, why can't they fill in more water, so the rods are covered?
