Reports of Yes Please badge sightings

Like Dan Yurman at Idaho Samizdat, I have posted the Nuclear Power Yes Please Badge on my blog at Atomic Insights (http://atomicinsights.blogspot.com). I thought it might be a good idea to start a more general topic where members can gather reports of other web sites, blogs and podcasts that proudly display the badge in support of the need for discussion of this important topic.

I first saw the badge on an Ars Technica article titled Nuclear power? Yes please! (http://arstechnica.com/science/news/200 ... please.ars). It also appeared on an Atomic Insights blog pointing to that article dated Friday, March 20, 2009.

It will be fun to watch how quickly we can spread the badge and add to the user population here so that the conversation can really take hold.

Hiya Rod, and thank you for spreading the badge! I'm glad to see you found your way over here despite Jonathan forgetting to link us. *friendly poke in the general direction of Ars Technica* :D

The point of the badge is indeed to spread it. One mistake us nuke-heads often do is to start techno-babbling about how and why the anti-nukers are wrong because science does not support their claims, sometimes all the way down to how the different neutron spectrum in graphite moderated reactors compared to lightwater moderated ones affect the void feedback coefficient in such a way that...

...in such a way that we havn't gotten the point across before we have lost the audience's attention. That's why we need the badge. It's instantly recognizable, it's friendly, positive and it gets the message accross in nary a shake.

The forums are a bit low on activity at the moment, but with interest picking up now, we are in for some exciting times. Do stay tuned. :)

I would just like to add our very first external linking, from someone that wasn't affiliated directly with the site:

Steve Packard at Depleted Cranium.

Steve has been fighting bad science for quite some time, and in a very scientific matter such as energy production, bad science tends to rear its ugly head quite often.

Hi Michael. I've thought about adding your smiley atom to my blog, but I'm not sure how to go about doing so. Also, I'm not 100% happy with the symbol... it's nice, but I have in mind something a bit more abstract, geometric and striking. If I ever manage to visualise what I'm talking about, I'll let you know and present it for criticism.

I have included a link to this forum from my blog. I aim to start posting there again soon after a long hiatus, so maybe people will occasionally drop in and see the link. Good luck with it all.

Hiya Finrod!

If you wish to make another Nuclear Power Yes Please symbol, you are of course very welcome to do so. We may even host if for you if we agree on it.

The current design concept of this badge will not change though since it is a satire/parody of a well known original, the smiling sun logo used by the anti-nuclear movement. This has many advantages, one of them being instant recognition, and as such we lose that if we deviate from the currrent design.

About posting it on your blog... just link me your blog and I can take a look at what software you are using and give you some hints. :)

Here's the link, Michael:

I was aware of the source from which your symbol has been derived, and I agree with your reasoning. I also have a gut feeling that it would be nice to have something representing the pro-nuclear forces which is not derivative, which is original to us, and reflects something of the strengths of our case. I'm not going to claim that I'm necessarily the best person to undertake the project.

You're using Blogspot. This page should tell you how to post images:

First you'll probably need to download the image you want on your computer. Just go to our download page, pick a picture of suitable size, right-click the download link and select "Save as...". Then the image will be available for you to upload it using blogspot.

Michael:

Have you put the "Nuclear Power? Yes Please" logo onto T-Shirts, hard hat or bumper stickers, buttons, etc. If you have, I would love to buy a boatload of the stuff from you and hand it out to my friends. It is a great way for people to show their support for the nuclear industry, particularly in communities where a new build has been proposed. It would help send a quiet, but distinct, message to the anti-nuclear activists that we are here and we are not going to let them drown us out with their vociferous opposition.

Provided that I were only to recovery my costs, could I put the logo on T-Shirts and stickers myself and distribute them?

Thx. TNT.
